FREEDOM HOUSING INC. is a non-profit organization that promotes wellness and independence by providing low-cost supportive housing and other programs for vulnerable persons. Freedom Housing was established in 2017 with a mission to help clients to gain or regain valuable and meaningful roles in the community by providing them with structure, supervision, support, life skills, and in some cases, education and training. In total, Freedom Housing operates 7 locations in Ontario with the intention to open 3 more in 2018.

How it started…

Today, one in eight Canadian households cannot find affordable housing that is safe, suitable, and well maintained. When affordable housing is in short supply, Canadians feel less secure and our whole economy suffers. This problem is worse for people with vulnerabilities like people with mental health problems or trying to escape addiction. Often, this group of individuals find themselves being abused by landlords or people around them which exacerbates their existing problems. The lack of the right structure, support or supervision diverts these individuals from addressing the real issues causing them to lose their valuable and meaningful roles in the community.
